The Powder Brown Tang, scientifically known as Acanthurus japonicus, is one of the most elegant and highly sought-after tang species. It features a rich dark brown body highlighted by bright yellow markings running along the dorsal and anal fins, forming a distinctive Y-shaped pattern. An eye-catching orange stripe decorates the dorsal fin, while the dorsal and anal fins are edged in light blue. Feeding
The Powder Brown Tang is primarily herbivorous, although it will also accept moderate amounts of protein-rich marine foods. A diet rich in marine algae is essential for maintaining strong immunity, vibrant coloration, and long-term health.
Recommended foods include:
- Dried seaweed (Nori).
- Marine algae formulated specifically for tangs.
- High-quality herbivore pellets and flakes.
- Frozen Mysis Shrimp.
- Krill and other frozen marine foods.
Reefamorous Tip: Offer dried seaweed at least three times per week using a dedicated algae clip or by securing it to the live rock. A varied diet rich in marine algae helps strengthen the immune system, reduce territorial behavior, and maintain the fish's vibrant natural coloration.
